Soar in 2024

Soar in 2024

Soar In 2024, began to reverberate in my mind, heart, and spirit at the beginning of the year and has continued. It started as personal encouragement that has since become an affirmation – Soar in 2024! As I spoke to family, friends, and others, several individuals had similar thoughts. I have put it on our agendas, mentioned it in multiple meetings, and repeated it at home and other gatherings.

This Section year promises to be busy with us conducting multiple community-based services, celebrating and executing our signature annual luncheon fundraiser, building the “Be the Change” Scholarship Fund, maintaining partnerships, developing new partnerships, participating in the various training series conducted by NCNW Headquarters, writing grants, recruiting/retaining/reclaiming members, conducting an election in our local section, being very actively involved in the “unprecedented” National election, and more. There is plenty of work for each of us to do.

The dynamic, Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley, President, and CEO of the National Council of Negro Women, Incorporated (NCNW), has called for a controlled, perpetual “purple rush.” Sections are to be active in their localities as they work on behalf of women of African American descent and their children in areas of injustice, such as, but not limited to, health, wellness, residences, education, finances, employment, and food insecurity. The community and those in power and control should know the Columbus Section of NCNW exists for the sake of improving the livelihood of Black and Brown women, children, families, and communities. Let’s Soar in 2024!

Because of the identification and presence of certain social injustices and the upcoming November election, a national “Purple Rush” has been designated for the week of April 22, 2024. At that time, all elected representatives will be in their home districts. Specifically, under our President’s leadership, we are “Bringing the Hill to Your Home.” Partnering with women from our affiliates, all sisters are to wear purple, along with their organization’s pin, and visit the office of their political representatives. Register now for the NCNW Virtual Policy Summit Series that will be held in April 2024. There is also a targeted 8 States ‘Get Out The Vote’ (GOTV) Strategy. More information to follow.

In conjunction with the aforementioned, we MUST give due diligence to that which will continue to make the Columbus Section a community-based, service-oriented, successful section. That means being relevant and taking care of ‘home’ through our Diaper Drive, Breakfast with a Book, Annual Luncheon, Serving Our Seniors, S.E.E. (Serve, Educate, Elevate/Empower) Programs, Be the Change Scholarship, Feeding the Homeless, Health and Wellness Initiatives, etc. Get ready to Soar in 2024!
Like a magnificent eagle that spreads its wings and soars in the air, as an organization, I believe by faith, we will Soar in 2024. However, guess what? There will be times/days when we will not feel like doing anything. The issues of our lives may seem to have overtaken and predominated us. Recently, I heard a masterful teacher say, “Faith cannot be measured by how you feel, but by how you function.” Since we are taught “faith is believing without seeing,” we must keep it moving, said differently – function.

Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, our founder said, “Faith is the first factor in a life devoted to service. Without it, nothing is possible. With it, nothing is impossible.” Faith is predicated on the Greater One in each of us. For me, it is my Christian beliefs.

One-on-one, I speak to you my sister, take a moment to do three things:

  1. Reflect
  2. Recommit
  3. Resonate within and without – Soar in 2024!

In conclusion, to the beloved Columbus Section of NCNW, it is my distinct honor and privilege to serve as your President. I do not take the opportunity and responsibility for granted; therefore, I am eternally grateful. Prayerfully, by faith, personally and organizationally, together, we will Soar in 2024!

Abundant blessings!

Vivian Jackson Anderson
President
